Do you have a chaotic family calendar? Do you wonder what to have for dinner? Lose shopping lists? Me too. I have tried so many things to keep up with all things on my calendar, my husbands, and my son's. for the better part of 5 years we have had some sort of dry erase or wall calendar, and for the most part it worked. Until someone didn't check the calendar before making other plans.
When we moved into our new home I had a plan to take an old tv and a raspberry pi to make a hub that would sync our phone calendars. (I saw it on tiktok), that is until I received an email from Amazon about their new Echo Show. I figured there was less technical work since it was already set up for what I wanted to do and more, so I preordered it.Like I said the dry erase worked for the most part. It just didn't work for my brain. I would write things on the calendar but forget to put it in my phone, or even forget to put items on the family calendar. The picture above is a slower month, there were months where there wasn't any white space left. This caused issues especially with hunting season and setting other plans.
So when the Echo Show arrived I immediately got to work setting it up. It sports a 15.6 Full HD (1080p) smart display and a 5MP camera, it can be mounted in portrait or horizontal orientation; the bracket doesn't need to be changed if you decide you want it mounted different. Or if you don't want to mount it you can get the stand.
Setting up family profiles was easy so now when someone walks up to the screen or talks to Alexa it knows who it is and who's profile to show. The sticky note, to do, and shopping list shows up on everyone's profile. Then there is the calendar, each person can link their own gmail calendar so when they put an item on phone it will sync and vise versa, all events show up on the calendar widget on each profile.
I took the wall next to the fridge from an eye sore to a beauty with the Echo Show. To hide the power cord I used a cord management thing I picked up at Home Depot and painted it to match the wall.
